Until a few years ago, I rarely ate breakfast. I’m one of those people that doesn’t really have an appetite until later in the day and I thought skipping that meal was the perfect way to diet, as I was still reeling from my FRESHMAN 20 (I’m sure I’ll touch on my experience in Dallas, Texas in a later post). While I would hear over and over again from nutritionists, doctors, fitness experts, and basically everyone say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, I didn’t believe it. Well – it’s true people!!! They are all saying it for a reason after all! Having a healthy breakfast really does jumpstart your metabolism earlier in the day AKA helps you burn more calories AKA makes you skinny!!! Well, maybe the end result isn’t that simply achieved – but it definitely helps guide you in that direction!
For me, breakfast is my one consistent meal… unless it’s a classy Sunday or there is some hungover brunch situation involved.
Since I’m not necessarily hungry, I keep my breakfast concise and to the point. And consumed within one hour of waking up!
1/4 cup of blueberries, 1 tablespoon of chia seeds (you can thank me later), 1/4 cup of unsweetened coconut milk yogurt (can use regular nonfat unsweetened dairy yogurt, but who really needs all that dairy if it’s not on a pizza or in a cone!) and 6 almonds (either roasted or raw – protein is your friend). Mix it together and you have yourself a delicious and nutritious little health food parfait! For me, this is the perfect little mix; creamy, crunchy, and naturally sweet to get me and my metabolism going for the day! Just look out for the chia seeds that may have set up shop between your teeth!
After I leave the house, who knows what lunch and dinner may bring, but at least I started my day off right!!!
