Today in a spontaneous family trip to the SGV (san gabriel valley said in snoop dog LBC voice) I found myself back at one of my childhood favorite fast-food restaurants- THE HAT! My parents used to have an escrow company in the SGV and my sister and I also attended CHINESE SCHOOL over the summer there- and THE HAT was often the highlight of our little day trips out there! I grew up embracing and appreciating all different types of food- while THE HAT is not the fanciest of places- it is certified with my stamp of approval or i guess HASHTAG OF APPROVAL #FABULUXEFOODS
Let me just warn you- THE HAT, which has been satisfying appetites since 1951, is not for the faint of heart- or anyone on a diet!!!! They are widely known for their PASTRAMI DIP sandwich ( $8.99) — a mound of juicy pastrami, pickles, and mustard on a french roll which is then dipped in au jus to really BRING EVERYTHING TOGETHER #delish
In addition to the french dip sandwich, we also got onion rings, THE LARGEST SINGLE ORDER OF CHILI CHEESE FRIES KNOWN TO MAN (bring a friend or 4), a cheeseburger (that soon became a CHILI cheeseburger), and a roast beef sandwich- not my first choice- WAS ROGER’S PICK! Oh and i cannot forget the imperative extra icy pink lemonade to top it all off!
I would say we were pretty CONSERVATIVE in our calorie intake at this establishment– they also offer things like PASTRAMI CHEESEBURGERS, PASTRAMI CHEESE FRIES, BBQ BEEF DIP SANDWICHES, and HOT DOGS.
There are a few THE HAT’s scattered around California, and kids- if you happen to stumble past one or down to TRAVEL FOR FOOD (no judgement here)- i highly suggest you make a stop!
